Branding · Discipline 01
Branding for businesses that have outgrown their first story.
Most mid-size companies in Pune and Mumbai grew on a founder’s reputation, and it shows: a strong business described five different ways. Our Branding discipline turns what makes you worth choosing into a position, a name, a look and a voice your whole team can use, without the founder in the room.

What branding actually does for a mid-size company.
It decides whether you are remembered when a buyer is finally ready, and whether you are believed when they check. That matters more after your first ₹50 crore than it did at the start, because the next customers won’t come through the founder’s network. They will come from people who know your name before they ever meet you.
5.5 lakh+
trademark applications filed in India in 2024-25, the register a new name has to clear
Most of your future customers aren’t buying yet. Research by the LinkedIn B2B Institute and the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute estimates that around 95% of business buyers are out of the market at any moment, because companies change suppliers only every few years (LinkedIn B2B Institute). Branding is how you stay remembered by the 95% until they move.
Familiarity tips close decisions. Among engineers and technical buyers, TREW Marketing and GlobalSpec found 70% are more likely to choose the better-known brand when solutions are technically similar, and 53% say brand familiarity influenced their most recent purchase. For a capable company that nobody outside its network has heard of, that is lost business it never sees.
Brand makes performance cheaper, not optional. In Les Binet and Peter Field’s B2B work for the LinkedIn B2B Institute, the most effective budgets split roughly 46% to long-term brand building and 54% to short-term activation. Brand is the part that makes every lead, search ad and sales call convert better, which is why we argue for funding both from one plan.
Standing out by name alone is getting harder. More than 5.5 lakh trademark applications were filed in India in 2024-25 (IP India Annual Report). A name that sounds unique in a leadership meeting is often shared, similar or already filed, which is why naming and positioning are decisions, not brainstorms.
You probably need branding work if…
Leadership teams usually notice the symptoms long before they name the cause. If three or more of these sound familiar, the brand is costing you more than it looks.
- Ask five leaders what makes you different and you get five answers.
- Your website could belong to two or three of your competitors.
- Sales rewrites the deck for almost every prospect.
- You’ve added products, cities or segments, and the old story no longer fits.
- Price is the most common reason you lose.
- Every agency and supplier produces a slightly different version of your brand.
The six Branding services.
Each one solves a different problem. Most companies need two or three of them, rarely all six at once, and positioning comes first whenever the story itself is unclear. Every service page explains the approach, the common mistakes and exactly what you keep.
01
Positioning
Positioning that makes the choice obvious.
Start here when leaders describe the business differently, or you win on product but lose on price.
- Positioning statement and strategic rationale
- Competitive landscape map
- Proof-point library
- Messaging hierarchy by audience
Explore Positioning
02
Naming
A name people can say, remember and own.
For a new company, product line or merged business that needs a name that works in conversation, in search and with your trademark attorney.
- Naming brief and evaluation criteria
- Longlist across naming routes
- Screened shortlist with linguistic notes
- Names shown in real-world context
Explore Naming
03
Visual identity
An identity that looks like it means something.
When the look is inconsistent, dated for the buyers you now sell to, or falls apart on a phone screen.
- Logo suite (primary, secondary, mark)
- Colour palette with accessibility checks
- Typography system and licences guidance
- Graphic language and patterns
Explore Visual identity
04
Verbal identity
Sound like one business, wherever you speak.
When your website, proposals and support emails sound like three different companies.
- Voice principles with do and don’t examples
- Messaging hierarchy by audience
- Vocabulary and style guide
- Rewritten key pages or templates
Explore Verbal identity
05
Creative direction
Creative work with a point, not just a look.
When campaigns, launches or content need one idea and one standard across several people making them.
- Creative strategy and central idea
- Campaign or launch concepts
- Creative briefs for makers
- Art direction for shoots and production
Explore Creative direction
06
Brand systems
A brand that stays itself as you grow.
When new products, teams, markets or suppliers keep bending the brand out of shape.
- Brand architecture model
- Naming and design rules for new products
- Template and component library
- Practical brand guidelines

How the six services fit together.
Branding runs in three movements. You don’t have to buy them in order, but decisions made early make everything after them faster and cheaper.
Movement 1 · Decide
What you stand for, and what you’re called.
The strategic choices. Get these wrong and every later piece of work carries the error into the market.
Movement 2 · Express
How you look and how you sound.
The position turned into things people can see and hear, tested on the channels your buyers actually use.
Movement 3 · Sustain
How the brand survives growth.
Judgement and structure, so new campaigns, products and teams strengthen the brand instead of diluting it.
Not sure where to start? Match your situation.
These are the situations leadership teams describe to us most often, and the service we would usually begin with. If none of them fits, that is exactly what the 45-minute Growth Audit is for.
Leaders can’t agree on one sentence about why customers choose you.
Start with Positioning. Every other brand decision depends on this one.
You’re launching a new company, product line or merged business.
Start with Naming, then Visual identity: the name first, then the look that carries it.
The look feels tired, but customers still recognise it.
Start with Brand systems or a careful identity refresh. Keep what people know; fix the system around it. Our rebrand risk checklist explains why.
Content and proposals sound different in every team.
Start with Verbal identity: voice principles, key messages and the words you use.
Several agencies, freelancers or regional teams produce your marketing.
Start with Creative direction and Brand systems: one idea, one standard, shared tools.
How a Branding engagement runs.
Six steps from the first conversation to a brand your whole team can use. At every step you know what happens, what you get and what we need from you. The full detail is on our Approach page.
Throughout
A 30-minute weekly sync with the lead doing the work, and an itemised log of every hour at ₹2,500 an hour.
01
Before you commit
A 45-minute Growth Audit
You talk to the Branding lead, not a salesperson. We look at what you’re trying to achieve, how the business is described today and where the brand is getting in the way.
02
Before work starts
A written scope and hours estimate
Which services you need, in what order, and a real number at ₹2,500 an hour. Packages run from 20 to 80 hours a month.
03
Weeks 1 to 2
Listening, and first deliverables
Interviews with leadership, sales and customers, including deals you lost, plus a review of proposals, sales calls and every place the brand appears today.
04
Next
Decisions before designs
We map the alternatives buyers actually weigh and bring you two or three distinct territories, with their trade-offs spelled out. You choose; we stress-test the choice.
05
Then
Express it, and test it
The position becomes an identity and a voice, designed from the strategy out and tested where your buyers will meet it, from a phone screen to a proposal.
06
At handover
Tools, not a PDF
Guidelines, templates and a component library, plus a working session with the people who will use them every day.
What we won’t do in Branding.
Start with the logo
The logo is rarely the real problem. Starting there skips the question of what the identity needs to say and to whom.
Rebrand you for novelty
Recognition takes years to build. After Tropicana’s 2009 packaging redesign, sales of the line fell 20% in under two months (Ad Age). We change what’s broken and keep what customers know.
Show you a name we haven’t screened
Every shortlisted name is checked for obvious conflicts before you fall in love with it. Formal clearance stays with your trademark attorney.
Hand over a PDF and leave
Guidelines nobody opens don’t protect a brand. You get templates, training and a named owner on your side.
How we judge whether branding worked.
Brand effects build over quarters, not weeks, so we agree leading indicators up front and review them on that clock. The board-ready version of this is in our insight on marketing numbers a CFO will trust.
01
Message consistency
Can leaders, sales and your website state the position the same way? We check before and after.
02
Branded search
More people searching for you by name is one of the clearest early signs you’re being remembered.
03
Direct and referral enquiries
Buyers who come to you already leaning your way, without being chased.
04
Win rate against named competitors
Positioning should show up where buyers compare you directly.
05
Price realisation
Less discounting to close is one of the best signs a position is working.
06
Time to on-brand work
How long a new hire or supplier takes to produce work that looks and sounds like you.
Remembered · Believed · Chosen
Questions about Branding.
How long does a branding project take?
It depends on which services you need. First deliverables arrive within two weeks of kickoff. Positioning settles once the interviews are done and the leadership team has made its decision; a full identity takes longer because it has to be tested across the channels you actually use. You get a written scope with an hours estimate before anything starts.
Do we need a full rebrand?
Usually not. Most requests for a new logo turn out to be a positioning problem or an inconsistency problem, and both are cheaper and safer to fix than a new identity. A full rebrand makes sense after a merger, a legal conflict, a name that caps the business, or a real change of strategy.
Can you work with our existing logo?
Yes. If customers recognise it, we will usually keep it and fix the system around it: colour, type, layouts, templates and rules. Recognition is an asset, and we don’t spend it without a reason.
Will you check whether a new name is legally available?
We screen every shortlisted name for clashes with competitors, unwanted meanings in key languages and obvious domain or social-handle problems, then prepare a brief for your trademark attorney, who runs formal clearance. We are not lawyers and won’t pretend to be.
How is Branding priced?
One rate for every discipline: ₹2,500 an hour, logged and itemised every cycle. Packages run from 20 to 80 hours a month, with a three-month minimum and then month to month. You get a written scope and an hours estimate before anything starts.
Who does the work?
The Branding lead, one of our three founders, with more than ten years in identity, positioning and design systems. If a project needs a specialist such as an illustrator or photographer, we tell you who and why before they start.
Where Branding connects.
A brand is only useful when it reaches the website, the sales deck and the search results. That is why one team owns all three disciplines.
