Mumbai · Healthcare & diagnostics

Patients trust the nearest name they recognise. Make it yours.

In a city where a patient can reach five labs and three clinics within a kilometre, the choice often comes down to which name feels trustworthy on a phone screen. Independent clinics and labs are competing with well-funded chains, under strict rules about what they may say.

Healthcare & diagnostics

Diagnostics and care, right now.

The market is growing, but it’s consolidating fast, and advertising in healthcare is one of the most scrutinised categories in India.

20–25%

of India’s diagnostics market belongs to organised chains; the rest is standalone and hospital labs

1.3 lakh+

laboratories operate across India, a fragmented market that’s consolidating

19%

CareEdge expects consolidation to accelerate, with pharma companies, hospital networks and e-pharmacies entering diagnostics, and notes that average revenue per test has declined slightly over five years as competition rises. On the rules side, the NMC’s 2023 professional conduct regulations were put in abeyance, which leaves the Indian Medical Council regulations of 2002 in force, and they restrict how doctors may promote themselves.

What independent providers struggle with, and how we’d help.

Ethical limits aren’t the problem. Most providers are held back by saying too little, too generically, in places patients don’t look.

01

Patients can’t tell you from the chain next door.

The chain has a recognisable brand and an app. You have a signboard, a phone number and a reputation that only existing patients know about.

How we’d fix it · Branding

Define what you do better, whether that’s speed, a speciality, doctor access or home collection, and build an identity that makes it recognisable.

02

The rules limit what you can say, so you say nothing.

Unsure what’s allowed, many providers post festival greetings and stock photos. Meanwhile, patients search for answers you could give.

How we’d fix it · Growth

Educational content that helps patients understand tests, preparation and conditions, written within professional rules and reviewed by your clinicians.

03

Local search decides the visit.

A patient searches “thyroid test near me” or “paediatrician in Andheri West” and chooses from the first three results. An incomplete profile or thin website loses that patient before they call.

How we’d fix it · Growth

Local SEO for each centre: accurate listings, locality pages, and service pages that answer what patients search in the language they search in.

04

Booking and reports are painful online.

Patients call to book, wait on hold, then receive reports as blurry PDFs on WhatsApp. Chains have made this easy, and patients have noticed.

How we’d fix it · Designing

Booking, home-collection scheduling and report access designed around the patient’s day, integrated with the systems you already use.

05

You compete on price by default.

Aggregators and discount packages train patients to shop by cost, and margins per test are under pressure.

How we’d fix it · Branding

Communicate the value patients can’t see on a price list: accuracy, turnaround, doctor involvement and care, so you’re not only chosen when you’re cheapest.

Why Mumbai patients choose differently.

Mumbai patients decide within a tight radius. Commutes are long, and a centre on the wrong side of the station might as well be in another city. Local visibility often matters more than city-wide awareness.

Patients also search in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and English, and families often decide together. Clear, multilingual information that a son, daughter or parent can forward is worth more than a clever tagline.

What patients check before they walk in

  • Distance, timings and whether home collection is available
  • Which doctors are there, and their qualifications
  • Test preparation and turnaround times
  • Accreditation, such as NABL for labs
  • Recent reviews and how you respond to them

What we won’t do in healthcare marketing.

Publish patient testimonials promising outcomes

Doctors are bound by professional conduct rules, and ASCI has named healthcare among the most complained-about categories. Trust comes from information, not promises.

Buy reviews or followers

It breaks platform rules and professional ethics, and patients can usually tell.

Use fear to sell tests

Scare-led campaigns can bring one-off visits, but they wear down the trust that brings patients back.

What clinics and labs ask us.

Are doctors allowed to market themselves in India?

Doctors are restricted by professional conduct regulations. The NMC’s 2023 regulations are in abeyance, and the 2002 Indian Medical Council regulations still apply. Institutions can share factual information about services and facilities. We work within those limits and recommend your legal or compliance adviser confirms anything borderline.

We’re a single clinic, not a chain. Is this worth it?

Often more so. A single clinic lives or dies on local reputation and search, which is where focused work pays back fastest.

Can you work with our lab or hospital software for booking?

We design the booking and report experience and work with your software vendor or developers to integrate it. We’ll check what your systems allow early.

Who writes the medical content?

We plan and write it, and your clinicians review and approve every piece before it goes live.

How do you measure results?

Booked appointments and tests by channel and centre, and repeat visits. We agree the metric at kickoff.

Be the name patients trust nearby.
