Fewer than one Indian adult in a hundred has a gym membership.
That’s the opportunity. India’s fitness market is young: most people who could join a gym or a studio haven’t yet, and those who have are choosing between value gyms, boutique studios and apps. Our gym branding and studio marketing work helps you decide which of those you are, look like it, and turn a trial class into a membership.
Fitness & wellness studios
Value gym, boutique studio or something in between?
Most positioning problems in fitness come from trying to be all three at once. Value gyms hold about 78% of memberships, while boutique studios grow fastest (Source 1). Each needs a different brand.
| Value gym | Boutique studio | Yoga or wellness studio | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What members buy | Access to good equipment at a fair price | A specific class, coach and community | A practice, a teacher and a calmer routine |
| What the brand has to prove | Clean, safe, well equipped and convenient | Results, and a sense of belonging | Authenticity, and the teacher’s training |
| What the website has to do | Show locations, timings, prices and how to join | Sell the trial class and the schedule | Explain the style and book a first session |
| Biggest risk | Competing on price alone | Depending on one star coach | Sounding like every other studio |
Where studios lose members, and what we’d change.
Most of these show up between the first enquiry and the third month.
01
The trial class is the whole funnel, and it’s an afterthought.
Enquiries arrive by Instagram DM and phone, the trial is booked by hand, and nobody follows up afterwards.
How we’d fix it · Growth
A trial-booking page that takes details once, confirms automatically and hands over to a short follow-up sequence. We measure trial-to-member conversion, not just leads.
02
Your studio looks like every other studio.
Neon signs, motivational quotes and the same stock poses. Nothing a prospective member could describe to a friend.
How we’d fix it · Branding
A position that names who the studio is for, and an identity built from it: colour, type and a photographic style taken from your own space and people.
03
The schedule lives in a PDF or an Instagram story.
Members check class times on their phones several times a week. When the schedule is hard to find, they assume the class is full or cancelled.
How we’d fix it · Designing
A fast, mobile-first schedule page that’s always current, with booking where the class allows it.
04
Coaches carry the brand, and then they leave.
A popular trainer moves on and takes members with them.
How we’d fix it · Branding
Give the studio its own method and voice, so members belong to the place as well as the person: named programmes, a consistent way of coaching and coach profiles that sit inside the studio brand.
05
Headlines that promise a body.
“Lose 10 kg in 30 days” sets expectations no coach can meet for everyone, and a claim you can’t back up is a misleading one under India’s 2022 advertising guidelines (Source 2).
How we’d fix it · Growth
Honest promises: what a member will do, how often and with whom, and what members say in their own words.
What studio owners ask us.
We’re a single studio. Is this too much for us?
No. We charge by the hour, at ₹2,500, and many studios need only a focused identity and a booking website. The Growth Audit is where we decide what’s worth doing first.
Can you run our Instagram?
We set the brand rules, content themes and templates your team or social media manager works from. We don’t run day-to-day posting. Content strategy covers the plan.
Should we use before-and-after photos?
Carefully, if at all. Results vary from person to person, and a photo reads as a promise. If you use them, they should be real, consented and typical, with the programme and timeframe stated.
Do you build gym management software?
No. We design and build the website around the booking or membership tool you already use, so that joining, booking and paying work cleanly on a phone.
Have you worked with a fitness business?
Not yet as a client. Our closest work is a concept, Kiln, a fictional ceramics studio in Bandra West running classes for beginners. It has the same problem: turning a first class into a regular.
